Wish to become Catholic?

We are truly glad you are here.
Those wishing to become Catholic enter an initiation program known as OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) to receive the three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion.
OCIA is more than a “program”— it is a joyous journey of learning and conversion of the heart to Jesus Christ.
At St. Pius X, we look forward to accompanying you through your OCIA journey and welcoming you into the fullness of the Church.
“With your baptism, you are born into the life of grace. God becomes intimate to you, and He does not leave you.”
How to Become Catholic
-
What is OCIA?
OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) is the process by which adults, unbaptized and baptized, can enter the Catholic Church through the reception of all three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion.
OCIA involves weekly meetings through which interested individuals gain a deeper appreciation for and understanding of the Catholic faith, beliefs, and practices.
-
Who is OCIA for?
OCIA is for those who
Have not yet been baptized
Have been baptized, but have little affiliation with the Catholic Church
Wish to complete all three Sacraments of Initiation
-
How do I sign up for OCIA?
If you are interested, call the St. Pius X Church Office at (337) 725-3719 during business hours.
Simply give your name and a contact number to our Secretary, and the Director of OCIA will contact you. We look forward to meeting you!
-
When is OCIA?
OCIA starts each Fall and concludes with the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil each Spring.
OCIA meetings are generally held on Sunday mornings following the 9:00am Mass— approximately 10:15am – 11:30am.
-
What if I register and then decide to not become Catholic?
All are welcome to join OCIA with no obligation to commit to becoming Catholic.
We may be sad to see you go, but becoming Catholic should be your free choice. If you ever wish to return to OCIA in the future, we will be glad to have you back.
-
What if I have little to no experience of Christianity?
OCIA is for you! Previous knowledge or experience of Christianity is not necessary to become Catholic.
-
Would I go through OCIA alone?
OCIA is a process built around community. All OCIA candidates are accompanied through their journey by a sponsor of their choosing or an individual from our parish.
At the weekly meetings, you will be accompanied by others wishing to become Catholic and St. Pius X parishioners who facilitate meetings.
-
What happens after I become Catholic?
We encourage all newly-initiated Catholics to become involved with our parish! Join a ministry, volunteer, and attend our community events! We welcome the opportunity to build a relationship with you.
